Most Popular Rolex Datejust 116139 on Sale
There are few watchmakers like Rolex and few models as beloved as the Datejust. This mid-20th century classic defined the modern watch as we know it today, making features like the three-hand dial and date the norm. Over the years, the Rolex Datejust has been revamped and refined – worn by presidents and the rich and famous. While collectors may clamour for certain models, you’re also sure to find them wearing their own Datejust 116139.
This 18K white gold Datejust is a modern interpretation of this timeless classic – complete with striking features such as the iconic crystal cyclops date and a 36mm water-resistant oyster case. These stately features and modern additions make this watch almost as iconic as its maker.
The Datejust changed our expectations of replica watches; however, we seem to forget how revolutionary this stunning watch was. In 1945, clone Rolex celebrated its 40th anniversary with the introduction of the first Datejust – its internal date change mechanism made it the first automatic watch of its kind.
The collection was available in various dial colours, metal finishes, bezel and bracelet types – including the Jubilee, which was introduced with the original Datejust and was named after the Jubilee anniversary. Over the years, the watch’s innate versatility and elegance have made it the choice of the rich and famous in boardrooms and on the golf course.
This design element gives the watch a sophisticated and understated aesthetic compared to an all-gold Rolex watch. It provides the wearer with the exclusivity of a white gold Rolex watch while also being more effortless. Of course, the leather strap also provides a slightly more attractive price tag for Ref. 116139.
The model 116139 always comes with Rolex’s signature fluted bezel, a hallmark of the watch’s use of gold. The bezel is angled so that it slides effortlessly under the tight-fitting sleeves. The dial options range from a rather sporty silver dial adorned with lilac-coloured Arabic hour markers to a traditional stick filled with luminescence.
While the DJ 116139 may be based on some of the classics, the watch is entirely modern inside, with the calibre 3135, which is COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) certified and boasted a 48-hour power reserve and 31 jewels. The modern Datejust 116139 is also equipped with a proprietary, state-of-the-art antimagnetic hairspring that better resists shocks and extreme temperature changes.
The Rolex Datejust 116139 has since been discontinued. The medium-sized Datejust 31 and Lady-Datejust 28 are the production’s only solid white gold Datejust models. Oyster steel – also known as 904L stainless steel – and imitation Rolex‘s patented “Rolesor” two-tone finish are the only metal options in the men’s category, which includes the Datejust 36 and Datejust 41. In addition, Rolex no longer produces the men’s Datejust with a leather strap.
The Ref. 116139 is unique because no other Datejust in the current Rolex catalogue has a white gold case and a leather strap. The next closest options are the white gold Day-Date or Sky-Dweller, and even then, neither of these models are currently in production, so you’ll need to turn to the secondary market for a Rolex watch with a white gold leather strap.
If you’re looking for an everyday copy watch that still exudes luxury, the Datejust 116139 should be your top choice. This modern classic is the ultimate combination of performance and style, effortlessly combining world-class design with state-of-the-art mechanisms.
